DeAngelo Hall: Achilles feels good, but I'm taking it slow

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall tore his Achilles tendon just over eight months ago, and he's not ready just yet to get back on the practice field. When Hall does get back on the field, the 31-year old cornerback will have to prove that he can still play at the same level the team is accustomed to. Hall's contract carries no guarantees and the Redskins can choose to release him without any dead money against the salary cap.

Hall knows what he's up against, but he has no thoughts about rushing the recovery process.

“They have a plan and they’re sticking with that plan,” Hall told John Keim of ESPN.com. “As good as I feel now, I look at it as more time to feel better. I feel I can go out there and make plays. If they want to hold me out for a while that’s fine with me. I got one shot to show what I can do, whether that’s waiting or going right now. I definitely want to be as healthy as possible. It wasn’t me coming to them and saying ‘let’s wait.’ It was them saying, ‘Let’s stick to this timetable. I know you feel good. I know you want to get out there. But let’s take our time and ease into it.’ I’ve been following that motto.”

The Redskins added free agent Chris Culliver at cornerback this offseason, and he is expected to take over a starting spot on the outside. Hall will do battle with Bashaud Breeland and David Amerson for the final starting spot on the outside. There was also some earlier offseason chatter about the Redskins asking Hall to convert to safety.
