DeAndre Hopkins expected back for Texans training camp

Published Jun. 10, 2015 2:02 a.m. ET

The Houston Texans are counting on DeAndre Hopkins to be the new face of their wide receiving corps. But first, Hopkins has to get healthy and back on the field.

The third-year wideout had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his wrist following last season. Thus far, he hasn't been able to participate in Houston's offseason workouts. Head coach Bill O'Brien said the plan is for Hopkins to return later this summer.

“I think Hop will be ready for training camp,” O’Brien said, via John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. “I don’t know the date, but I know that he’ll be out there at some point during training camp.”

The 23-year-old Hopkins caught 76 passes for 1210 yards and six touchdowns in 2014. He will take over for Andre Johnson as Houston's No. 1 receiver this year. Johnson was released in March and signed with division rival Indianapolis.
