David Johnson continues to shine in a disappointing season for the Cardinals.
Cardinals running back David Johnson continues to have a tremendous 2016 season, Despite the fact that things haven’t gone as planned for the team, individually, he has excelled, and Sunday was no different. For his efforts against the Redskins have earned him an NFC Player of the Week honor.
In a game that the Cardinals had to have, if they wanted to maintain playoff hopes, Johnson led the way. He rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown on nine carries, and added another 91 yards and a touchdown receiving. His yardage totals led the team in both categories, and his rushing yards put him over 1,000 on the year.
Johnson continues to be mentioned as an MVP candidate, and has played like one, but he’ll likely need the team to win more games, as no MVP has ever come from a team that was .500 or worse. He has 1,005 rushing yards and 704 yards receiving on the season to go along with 15 total touchdowns. He currently sits 3rd in the league in rushing yards, and is the NFL’s leader in total yards and touchdowns. The Player of the Week honor is the second he’s received this season.
