David Carr: Texans didn't want distraction of drafting my brother

David Carr believes the Texans didn’t draft his brother Derek Carr because they were afraid playing in Houston would be too much of a distraction for him.

Carr spoke to reporters about his younger brother this past week in Houston leading up to tomorrow’s Super Bowl.

“Usually you would want to uncover every stone and make sure you at least had a conversation with (Derek),” Carr said, via CBS Houston. “I think having been (with the Texans) and the way we left and Derek kind of was a part of it. I don’t know if (the Texans) wanted that attention or distraction they just wanted a guy they could bring and play football.”

David believes the Texans may have thought playing in Houston would have been too much for Derek because of how his career ended.

“I’m not going to sit here and say they didn’t think he was capable of playing for them because that’s crazy,” the elder Carr said. “We all know that that’s not true and I don’t think that they believe that either. I think they just didn’t want the extra stuff that would come along with it and that pressure for him.”

David does believe Derek would have been a great fit for the Texans.

“I think if it was a different time and I didn’t play here that would have been an easy call for them.”

No one really knows how Derek Carr would have handled playing in Houston, but the Raiders have been a great organization for him as he’s developed into one of the top young quarterbacks in the league.
