Cowboys linebacker McClain out against Redskins with illness

Published Dec. 27, 2014 9:10 p.m. ET

Dallas linebacker Rolando McClain will miss the Cowboys' game Sunday at Washington because of an illness, capping a tumultuous week that included a fire destroying his $1.5 million home in Alabama.

The team said McClain didn't make the trip Saturday. He missed a day of practice to tend to matters related to the house fire. He was listed as probable on the final injury report Friday, with no mention of an illness.

McClain missed two games with knee and groin injuries. The former top-10 pick by Oakland came out of retirement when Dallas acquired him from Baltimore in July after a season-ending knee injury to linebacker Sean Lee.
