Spanning the virtual globe to bring you the latest news about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL – these are your Daily Dawg Tags for Wednesday, Sept. 28.

The Cleveland Browns will reach the quarter mark of the NFL season this Sunday and when it comes to the standings the team is where many expected them to be.

But despite their 0-3 record, there are some unexpected positives around the club as the Browns are currently fourth in the NFL in rushing at 144.7 yards per game and second in yards per carry at 5.7.

They are even moderately better against the run, currently sitting at No. 18 by giving up 109.3 yards per game, but are only giving up 3.9 yards per carry.

In other words, there are things to build on from the opening weeks of the season.

“I think the positives are what you want to see because you want to see growth week in and week out. Let’s make no mistake, this is football. Period. It is about winning and losing. It is not about anything else,” head coach Hue Jackson said. “We play a game, and they keep score. At the end of it, they say this one has more points than the other team. We have to get on the other side of the ledger.

“Have I seen improvement from our football team? Yes, I have. That is what I expect to see and that is what I tell our guys. I expect to see us get better. That means that they are in, they are working hard and we are creating the right environments for them. All that stuff is good, but it has to start leading to wins for our team.”

As the Browns start to turn their attention to the Washington Redskins, let’s take a look at the news surrounding the team and from around the NFL.

Cleveland Browns news:

Finally moving on from The Move

I understand why most Dawg Pound Daily readers will label me a traitor, a hypocrite or worse — and I accept their judgement — but now that the Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced its 2017 nominees, it’s time for this lifelong fan to send away a burning resentment. While my loyalty and love for the Cleveland Browns remain rock-solid, I’ll be OK if the Hall of Fame inducts Art Modell. If it happens, it happens.

3 offensive takeaways vs. the Dolphins

The Cleveland Browns offense finally showed up on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Not that it wasn’t around in the previous games, but for the first time this season the Browns offense finally looked like a Hue Jackson offense.

Hue Jackson backs kicker Cody Parkey (ESPN)

The Cleveland Browns do not believe place-kicker Cody Parkey should take the fall for Sunday’s overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins. The team also has no plans to change kickers before the Browns play in Washington, coach Hue Jackson said Monday.

Browns should trade for Tony Romo (Inquisitr)

The Cleveland Browns have been searching for an answer at the quarterback position for quite a few years now. They have gone through countless options in their search for the franchise quarterback that NFL teams need nowadays to become serious Super Bowl contenders. Looking around the NFL at trade options, there is one star quarterback that could make perfect sense for the Browns to target.

Lamar Jackson vs. Deshaun Watson: Who is the better college QB? (PFF)

The initial response to Lamar Jackson’s video game numbers was to cite the strength of opposition as Louisville faced Charlotte and Syracuse the first two weeks but they demolished Florida State in Week 3 and ended any concerns that his athleticism would translate against the nation’s best. The Cardinals are now sitting at 4-0 and headed to Clemson for a showdown with last year’s national title runner-up and Heisman Trophy candidate of their own, Deshaun Watson.

Drew Bledsoe sees end for Tony Romo (NFL.com)

Nearly 10 years ago, midway through a nationally televised night game, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Drew Bledsoe threw a short pass to the left flat that was intercepted by New York Giants cornerback Sam Madison a yard shy of the end zone. It brought a frustrating end to the Cowboys’ final drive of the first half, and with the home team staring at a 12-7 deficit, Bledsoe retreated to the locker room at Texas Stadium intent on mounting a comeback. Little did Bledsoe know that he had just thrown the final pass of his 14-year career.

Saints wasting Drew Brees brilliance (USA Today)

Drew Brees might as well put his house on the market. Because if the Saints’ All-Pro quarterback wants to win another Super Bowl, he’s going to have to leave New Orleans.
