Daily Dawg Tags: Cleveland Browns still winless

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Spanning the virtual globe to bring you the latest news about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL – these are your Daily Dawg Tags for Monday, Oct. 24.

The Cleveland Browns remain the only NFL team without a win during the 2016 season after dropping a 31-17 decision on Sunday to the Cincinnati Bengals.

And while he certainly knew what he was signing up for, head coach Hue Jackson has had enough of the losing.

“I don’t like losing. I can get just like anybody else. I can get disappointed and upset just like anybody else,” Jackson said after the game. “I don’t like where we are as a football team, and this is my responsibility, so, at the end of the day in my mind, I have to find a way to fix it — and as fast as I can as best I can, so that’s what I have to do.”

Jackson and the Browns may be doing that without quarterback Cody Kessler, who left Sunday’s game with a concussion. If (when?) he can’t go next week, the Browns will welcome the New York Jets with either rookie quarterback Kevin Hogan making his first NFL start or veteran Josh McCown returning for his first action since Week 2.

In other words, just another day for the 2016 Browns.

Cleveland Browns News:

Browns willing to trade Joe Thomas?

The Cleveland Browns are sitting at 0-7 on the season after Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and the NFL’s annual trading deadline is on the horizon. So, naturally, it is the season for “reports” that the Browns are willing to trade away Pro Bowl left tackle Joe Thomas.

Browns: 3 takeaways from the loss to the Bengals

The Cleveland Browns were not expected to be great in 2016. The Browns were not even supposed to be “good,” but no one expected this. An 0-7 record is staring Browns fans in the eyes after a 31-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon. Here are three takeaways from the day.

Browns lose to Bengals, 31-17

The Cleveland Browns gave it a shot for a while but ultimately came up on the short end of the scoreboard on Sunday in losing to the Cincinnati Bengals by a score of 31-17. The seven losses to open the season are the second-longest in franchise history, tying the 1999 team, and trailing just the 1975 team that started the season at 0-9.

Here are the highest-graded players and top takeaways from the Bengals’ AFC North victory over the visiting Browns.

Josh McCown might be ready to start vs. New York Jets

Cody Kessler left Sunday’s 31-17 loss to the Bengals with a concussion, and rookie Kevin Hogan replaced him. But Josh McCown might be ready to start next week’s game against the 2-5 Jets if he’s cleared from his broken left collarbone.

3 reasons there is hope for the Cleveland Browns (Vice Sports)

It’s easy to forgive Cleveland for checking out on their NFL franchise given the circumstances. The Browns have been in a perpetual rebuild for what feels like eternity (or at least 10 years), and management all but gave up on this season before it even started. Dig beneath the surface of the team’s start, though, and there are some things to like about what Cleveland has done. No, really.

NFL News:

Owners concerned about NFL’s handling of Josh Brown (ESPN)

NFL owners, executives, coaches and players have privately been expressing their displeasure over how the league and the New York Giants have handled the domestic violence allegations against kicker Josh Brown, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Is Teddy Bridgewater’s career over? (CBS Sports)

Before the 2016 season began, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a horrific knee injury that knocked him out of the year. Minnesota traded for Sam Bradford not just to secure the position this year, but for next season as well. And the Vikings could need help for even longer. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, there is concern with “doctors around the league” that Bridgewater might not ever make it back to the NFL.

Eagles punish Sam Bradford in Philadelphia return (ESPN)

The Eagles’ defense ratcheted that pressure up in a big way in their 21-10 win over the previously undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Former Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford was treated harshly in his return to Lincoln Financial Field. Heavy boos rained down on him as he took the field for the first time. What followed probably hurt Bradford a lot worse, as the Eagles’ defense clobbered him for the next 60 minutes, taking advantage of a decimated offensive line.
