Cowboys reportedly interested in Adrian Peterson

The saga of one Adrian Peterson continues. Fresh off Peterson’s agent indicating publicly that it’s not in the best interest of his client to return to the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, comes this piece of information from ESPN’s Jane McManus indicating that the Dallas Cowboys are looking at Peterson for “the right price.”

This runs completely contrary to recent reports that suggested the Cowboys are not interested in the embattled future Hall of Fame running back.

There are so many different layers to this story.

Peterson is under contract with the Vikings for the 2015 season. Short of holding out or retiring, there isn’t much that the 30-year-old running back can do here.

Peterson remains on the Commissioner’s Exempt List after a federal judge sided with him against a NFL-imposed suspension last year. Roger Goodell is the only person able to remove Peterson from said list.

For the past couple weeks, the Arizona Cardinals had been in the forefront of conversations surrounding Peterson. Multiple reports indicated that Bruce Arians’ squad was willing to offer up a high-round pick for the running back.

In Dallas, there is most definitely a need for a running back. DeMarco Murray left for the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, which has caused a bit of a talent gap in Dallas’ backfield compared to last season. However, the team is just $1.6 million under the cap after signing Greg Hardy last week. Needless to say, Jerry Jones and Co. would have to make a lot of things work in the back end to pay Peterson.

Then you have the aforementioned Hardy situation. Dallas has received a ton of backlash for signing the former Carolina Panthers defensive end following his entire domestic violence case. Could it afford to add another questionable PR figure in Peterson?

Of course, all this is dependent on the Vikings actually placing Peterson on the trade block. As of right now, it’s not known whether they have done that.
