Could the Texans be the first to break the Super Bowl Host Jinx?

There's the Sports Illustrated Cover Jinx, the Madden Curse and the Billy Goat Curse. But what about the Super Bowl Host Jinx?

No team has ever made the Super Bowl when the game happens in its home stadium. Next year, Houston's NRG Stadium will host the return-to-Roman-numerals Super Bowl. Texans owner Bob McNair said his team is out to end that jinx.

"It's never happened that the host city, host team, played in the Super Bowl, so we'd like to break that record," McNair said Thursday (via HoustonTexans.com). "That would be wonderful, and anything is possible."

As pointed out by Pro Football Talk, no team hosting the Super Bowl at its home has even made a conference championship. However, two teams more or less had home games in the Super Bowl -- the Rams faced the Steelers at the Rose Bowl, and the 49ers played the Dolphins at Stanford Stadium. That didn't help the Rams much, but the 49ers did post a victory.

Not enough to do away with the jinx, though.
