Could Ricardo Allen be Atlanta's starting free safety in 2015?

Ricardo Allen is heading into his second season in the NFL, but the converted cornerback may be poised to make a big jump this coming year with the Atlanta Falcons. Allen not only is feeling comfortable and confident at the safety position, but according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, it's looking like he has a serious shot at winning the starting job.

As Dave Choate of The Falcoholic explains, Charles Godfrey was fully expected to be the man to win the job early on, but things haven't played out that way thus far.

"Ever since he signed a one year deal with the Falcons way back in early March, Charles Godfrey has been the obvious favorite for the starting free safety job. His skill set was at least a decent fit for Dan Quinn's defense, there didn't appear to be any stellar competition for the gig and the Falcons repeatedly struck out on free agents they were linked to." Choate explained.

"Then Ricardo Allen was moved to safety, and now it appears we've got a legitimate battle for a starting job."

The offseason battles are heating up, but this one may take a good bit of time to get worked out, so it's one that's worth watching as we get close to the season.
