Colts Wide Receiver Donte Moncrief Out 4-6 Weeks with a Fractured Scapula
Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano announced on Wednesday that starting wide receiver Donte Moncrief has a fractured scapula–essentially his shoulder blade and will miss 4-6 weeks recovering:
The 3rd-year wideout suffered the injury early in the first half against the Denver Broncos and was forced to leave the game this past Sunday. However, the team was still awaiting the MRI results on his shoulder prior to today’s announcement.
Obviously, it’s a big blow for the Colts offense, as the 6’2″, 222 pound Moncrief was the possession wideout in their offense–arguably their most dynamic receiver, and one of star quarterback Andrew Luck‘s favorite targets to start the season.
Before leaving Sunday’s game prematurely because of the injury, Moncrief had 7 receptions for 73 receiving yards and a touchdown in the team’s first two games.
The encouraging news is that Moncrief’s injury won’t require surgery, just rest:
In Moncrief’s absence, expect last year’s 1st round pick, Phillip Dorsett, to start on the other side of T.Y. Hilton, while both Quan Bray and Chester Rogers should see the majority of the reps as the team’s 3rd wide receiver.
It’s worth noting that wide receiver Devin Street was signed from the New England Patriots practice squad earlier on Wednesday and should provide additional depth at the position.
The team also has undrafted rookie wide receiver Tevaun Smith on their practice squad, who could receive a promotion should a further need arise at the position.
