Colts Wednesday Injury Report: Clayton Geathers 'DNP'; 3 Colts in Concussion Protocol

The Indianapolis Colts released their injury report for Wednesday with the biggest news being that starting safety Clayton Geathers (neck) did not practice on Wednesday and is considered “week-to-week” heading into Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

If Geathers cannot go, rookie T.J. Green would start alongside veteran safety Mike Adams again with nickelback Darius Butler potentially being deployed on obvious passing situations at the position.

The 2nd-year safety’s absence is further highlighted by starting inside linebacker D’Qwell Jackson‘s 4-game suspension.

Otherwise, the Colts could theoretically utilize Geathers as a hybrid inside linebacker to mitigate the veteran’s loss–providing some extra coverage and speed to the 2nd level of their defense.

Additionally, three active Colts are in the league’s concussion protocol including starting right guard Denzelle Good, as well as rotational defensive players Zach Kerr and Curt Maggitt–none of whom practiced on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, starting outside linebacker Robert Mathis (bicep) is “day-to-day” and did not practice on Wednesday, but told Fox Sports 975’s ‘Query and Schultz’ that he’s planning on practicing later in the week–even though he may still be dealing with some lingering pain.

Other encouraging news is that starting cornerback Patrick Robinson (groin) “is doing better” according to head coach Chuck Pagano and was able to practice Wednesday on a limited basis.

Lastly, starting quarterback Andrew Luck (right shoulder) was limited, while running back Frank Gore was held out for rest purposes respectively–with both instances looking simply like routine weekly maintenance.
