Colts' Herremans open to playing right tackle

The Indianapolis Colts hope they have the answer at right tackle for the upcoming season in veteran Gosder Cherilus. But with Cherilus coming off groin and knee injuries suffered last season, the timetable for his return is in question.

So if Cherilus isn't ready to go Week 1, who is? Joe Reitz, who started three games last season, remains on the roster. The Colts did use a seventh-round pick on Denzelle Good of Mars Hills University, but he's a unlikely to be a factor this season.

If no better option presents itself though, newcomer Todd Herremans said he's prepared to step in.

Herremans, who signed a one-year deal with the Colts in March is expected to compete for a starting guard job. But Herremans told Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star that his experience lends it self to playing multiple positions along the offensive line, if need be.

"I played two full seasons at right, one full season at left and I've filled in in spots in a bunch of games," Herremans said. "(The transition) is not really tough. I've done it enough now. I'm pretty comfortable with it."

According to Colts.com, Herremans started 24 games at right tackle over the course of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles.

So while the plan is for Cherilus to man the right tackle spot, Herremans provides insurance and versatility for a team going all-in on a Super Bowl run.
