Three teams have reached out to Colin Kaepernick since free agency opened

Colin Kaepernick has received calls from three NFL teams inquiring about his services, his adviser, Harry Edwards, told USA Today

Edwards, a well-known sociologist with a focus on social justice, has been advising Kaepernick since his decision last season to kneel during the national anthem.

“They’ve asked, ‘Can he play? Does he want to play?’” Edwards told USA Today. “The last question I can’t answer. The first question, absolutely. If Kap makes up his mind, he wouldn’t only go in and make a team, he’d put pressure on somebody to start.”

The longer Kaepernick goes unsigned, the louder the speculation that his unemployment is due to his protest last season.

During a rally in Kentucky in March, President Donald Trump relayed a report from Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman that NFL owners are hesitant to sign Kaepernick because of the backlash it could invite, including “a nasty tweet from Donald Trump,” Trump said to a chorus of cheers.

Kaepernick started 11 games for the Niners last season, completing 59.2% of his passes for 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. The 29-year-old also ran 69 times for 468 yards and two scores.
