Browns place TE Rob Housler on injured reserve

The Cleveland Browns placed tight end Rob Housler on injured reserve Wednesday, ending his season.

Housler has missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, but he's been a non-factor all season. The Browns signed Housler to a one-year deal worth $1.76 million this offseason with the intention of making him their starting tight end. Housler was plagued by drops in the preseason and fell behind Gary Barnidge on the depth chart.

Housler had just one catch for six yards in six games. He played just 7.2 percent of the team's offensive snaps, according to Football Outsiders. Considering the disappointment, don't expect to see Housler wearing a Browns uniform again next season.

The Browns also signed defensive back De'Ante Saunders from the practice squad in a corresponding move to add depth to their depleted secondary. Cornerback Joe Haden, and safeties Donte Whitner and Jordan Poyer are all expected to miss Thursday night's game in Cincinnati.
