Chris Simms: Redskins have too much talent not to be in the playoff picture

It's fair to say that NFL analyst Chris Simms is more confident in what the Washington Redskins can accomplish in 2015 than any other analyst. The former quarterback joined Bleacher Report to break down why he believes the Redskins will definitely be in the playoff picture come December.

“Bill Callahan’s your new offensive line coach in Washington? Wow,” Simms said, per Bleacher Report. “What an unbelievable get by that coaching staff. Bill Callahan just came from Dallas, and if you didn’t notice, they were the best offensive line in football. So I think they will be a much-improved running team this year.

“And then you go to the defensive side, Joe Barry, new defensive coordinator,” he went on. “I worked with him in Tampa, so of course he’s got the 4-3 Tampa 2 scheme in his back pocket and also has the 3-4 scheme, which he got out there in San Diego – which is where he’s coming from, the San Diego Chargers. But nonetheless, I think both sides of the ball will be coached better schematically going into 2015.”

Simms went on to break down the upgrades the Redskins made in the secondary before coming to his final takeaway:

“Just look at the roster of the Washington Redskins. There’s just too much talent on this roster for them to not at least be in the playoff picture come December. I think my big point is, listen: there’s a lot more talent there than I think all of us realize when you dig deep into the roster and look at what they’ve got. I think if the coaching and the talent all can be cohesive this year, the Redskins will be in the playoff picture come December.”

Simms made no mention of the Redskins' biggest question mark heading into 2015--Robert Griffin III. Improvements in the trenches on both sides of the ball will make the Redskins a more competitive team in 2015, but that's not saying much. They finished 4-12 last season, and they were not competitive in many games. In order to make the next step and reach the playoffs, Griffin will have to take a major step forward.
