Johnson was at Tulane from 2012 to 2015 and compiled a 15-34 record through four seasons at the school. Before that, he spent six seasons as the New Orleans Saints’ wide receivers coach (2006-2011). Bears general manager Ryan Pace worked in New Orleans’ personnel department during Johnson’s entire tenure with the Saints, so the two should be familiar with each other.
The Bears’ official website credits Johnson with 28 years of coaching wide receivers at the high school, college and professional levels, with some of his finest products coming out of Miami during his tenure with the Hurricanes (1996-2005).
The website also credits McDaniel with 13 years of coaching experience, listing his most recent gig as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at Rutgers. He is the younger brother of New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
