Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen compares Cam Newton to Jay Cutler

Veteran tight end Greg Olsen has played eight NFL seasons—four with the Chicago Bears (2007-10), four with the Carolina Panthers (2011-14). Olsen has caught passes from Jay Cutler and Cam Newton during his professional career, so he knows both quarterbacks well.

Recently, Olsen went on ESPN's Russillo Show and talked about the on-field similarities and differences between Cutler and Newton, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

"I think they’re both very mobile, they’re going to move around a lot. They’re going to bounce around the pocket, buy time, scramble. Some of their best plays are on second reactions, kind of down the field scramble drill so to speak.

"But everyone has their different styles. Cam is a big over the top launch guy, easy to find in the pocket. Jay, that ball can come out at any second, quick release. [Cutler] can get lost behind the line, bouncing around, but his arm talent is so good that he can launch it from anywhere. Just like Cam, they can throw the ball 80 yards."

Olsen has been far more productive in his four seasons with Newton than he was during his four seasons with Cutler. With the Panthers, the tight end has caught 271 passes for 3,207 yards and 22 touchdowns. As a Bear, he totaled 194 catches for 1,981 yards and 20 touchdowns.

A first-round pick out of Miami in 2007 (31st overall), Olsen just turned 30 years old this offseason and is coming off his first 1,000-yard season.
