Guns stolen from Panthers LB
Police are investigating the reported theft of four guns worth $1,700 from a pickup truck owned by Carolina Panthers backup linebacker Kion Wilson.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg says in a report that Wilson reported robbers broke into his F250 truck. He says they stole a FN 57 handgun, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a Glock 23, and a Smith and Wesson Body Guard 380.
Wilson said he discovered the break-in while driving after stopping at store parking lot near Northlake Mall on Monday.
Police say the door lock on the truck was also damaged.
Police were checking out surveillance cameras but have no suspects, said police Sgt. Brian Foley. He wouldn't say if the firearms are registered to Wilson, citing the privacy of the investigation.
However, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said the team has checked and the guns are correctly registered to Wilson to travel.
Hurney said Wilson was on his way to a firing range to practice shooting on Monday when he made a stop at a Best Buy and discovered the missing firearms shortly after leaving the store.
Foley said the truck Wilson owns is a common target for thieves.
Wilson was called up from the practice squad in November and has played in four games for the Panthers, mostly on special teams. He was not made available for comment during the team's open locker room session Wednesday.
