Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus failed in his latest bid to reach a plea agreement to resolve criminal charges and avoid trial for an alleged car-racing accident.

Dareus' attorney Michael Caffery said Thursday he and the Erie County District Attorney's office are still ''trying to work it out'' following a brief appearance in Hamburg Town Court.

Judge Gerald Gorman tentatively scheduled a hearing for April 7 should the two sides reach an agreement. If not, Dareus' case will go to trial on May 19.

Dareus rejected a previous offer to plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

The 2011 first-round pick faces numerous charges, including reckless endangerment. He crashed his 2012 Jaguar into a tree near a busy intersection in suburban Buffalo while allegedly racing teammate Jerry Hughes in May.
