Buccaneers at 49ers: Preview, Where to Watch and Listen

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After taking the bye week to rest up and get healthy, the Buccaneers (2-3) hit the road this week to take on the San Francisco 49ers (1-5). Here, we preview the matchup and tell you where to watch and listen to it.

The Buccaneers are looking to keep momentum going this Sunday at 4:05 when they take on the struggling 49ers. These two teams seem to be trending in different directions, with Tampa Bay coming off of a bye week as San Francisco heads into its own week off.

Back on October 10, the Bucs got a last-second field goal from Roberto Aguayo to beat the division rival Panthers. The Tampa Bay offense didn’t turn the ball over, while the defense forced four turnovers. How the game even came down to a last-second field goal is still a talking point for many, but the fact is, the Bucs sit at 2-3 heading into the rest of the season.

Tampa Bay is hoping to get a bit healthier this week. Luke Stocker, Cecil Shorts, Joe Hawley and Gerald McCoy all have a chance to suit up. Doug Martin, Robert Ayers and Clinton McDonald have been ruled out, but are inching closer to returning. With all of them coming back shortly, the rest of the season and the team’s potential playoff hopes are pretty intriguing.

Last week, the 49ers fell to the Bills by a score of 45-16 in Colin Kaepernick‘s first start of the year. He will start again this week for San Francisco, looking to recapture the success he had from 2012-2014. Running back Carlos Hyde‘s will miss Sunday’s contest after leaving last week’s game with a shoulder injury. The ‘Niners started the season with a 28-0 win over the Rams, but have since lost five straight while giving up an average of 37 points per game.

The last time these two teams met was in week 15 of the 2013 season. The 49ers came away with a 33-14 win at Raymond James Stadium, with Kaepernick completing 19 of his 29 attempts for 203 yards and two touchdowns. A depleted Tampa Bay rushing attack ran for just 39 yards on 12 carries. The Bucs are 4-17 all-time against the 49ers, including a 2-12 record in San Francisco.

WHERE TO WATCH: Fox will carry the game’s broadcast, with a familiar crew having the call. Chris Myers will have the play-by-play, while former Buc Ronde Barber does the color commentary. Jen Hale will have reports from the sideline.

WHERE TO LISTEN: 103.5 FM and 620 AM will have the broadcast in the Tampa Bay area. Gene Deckerhoff will provide the play-by-play, with former Buc Dave Moore doing the commentary. T.J.
