The Cleveland Browns could announce who will be their starting quarterback for Week 1 as early as Tuesday.

Coach Mike Pettine said Thursday on his radio show on 92.3 The Fan that a decision between first-round pick Johnny Manziel and incumbent Brian Hoyer could come soon after the Browns’ Monday night game against the Washington Redskins.

"I’m sure we’ll sit down at some point next week, maybe more than likely later in the day on Tuesday and get our heads together and see what we come up with," Pettine said.

Pettine said that Hoyer will start Monday’s game, but both quarterbacks will get equal reps with the first team. He also made it clear that the decision for Week 1 will not solely hinge on on-field performance.

"We’ve been able to evaluate the quarterbacks literally with everything they’ve done," Pettine said. "How they are in the meeting room, how they are on the practice field, how they are when they’re doing their individual period, how they are in the 7 on 7 and how they are in the team work."
