Broncos OT Donald Stephenson To Miss Time with Calf Injury

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Denver Broncos received another injury update, this time on the offensive line. Starting offensive tackle Donald Stephenson will miss 2-3 weeks with a calf injury.

Just when you thought the Denver Broncos offensive line was starting to gel together, the unit suffers a blow to the right side.

Donald Stephenson, the right tackle for the team, will be missing two to three weeks with a calf injury that he suffered during the game against the Indianapolis Colts. Michael Schofield entered the game to replace him.

If it was not for the comments that Gary Kubiak made in Monday’s presser, this injury could have been a lot more worse than it seemed in regards to the severity of the injury and the depth.

Stephenson did not suffer any major tear to the calf area, so a couple of weeks of rest and he should be good to go.

As far as the depth goes, the Broncos are hoping that second round draft pick Ty Sambrailo can play on Sunday. Kubaik noted that Sambrailo could have gone on Sunday, but decided to go with more defensive linemen than offensive linemen.

In other words, it looks like we will most likely see Ty Sambrailo in the game on Sunday when the Broncos take on the Cincinnati Bengals.

If Sambrailo can perform well and stay off the injury report during the time that Donald Stephenson is set to miss, then I believe that the Broncos offensive line will be okay.

The importance for the offensive line is to gel together. It does not help the line if players are missing time due to injury. This offensive line, when healthy, does have a shot at being a solid unit.

The right side of the offensive line has seen so much switching around that we do begin to wonder if that side of the line will ever be healthy.

If Ty Sambrailo does return for the Week 3 matchup against the Bengals, then not all hope maybe lost. But we are wishing Donald Stephenson a quick recovery.
