Billionaire: San Antonio would have Raiders proposal 'overnight'

Billionaire Red McCombs wants the Raiders to know they have a third option if Oakland and Los Angeles don't work out.

“What we’re doing in San Antonio is completely open,” McCombs said on Monday in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Nothing is covert in any kind of way. We feel like San Antonio is not only ready for the NFL, it’s way past ready."

McCombs and the city of San Diego have put together a package to lure the Raiders -- and McCombs says team ownership is aware of it. The city's NFL frontman also has some pro sports experience as a part-owner of the Minnesota Vikings, as well as the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets.

San Antonio gained traction as a potential Raiders landing spot last summer. Owner Mark Davis toured the city with longtime friend and city mayor Henry Cisneros.

The meeting was viewed as a leverage move to get Oakland moving on a financial package of its own. But that seems less and less likely, and should Los Angeles relocation fizzle out, McCombs says San Antonio is ready.

"If he (Davis) can work things out over there (in California) then fine," McCombs said. "If he doesn’t, I would just say that we have a package that would fit his team."
