Bears vs. Packers: Highlights, scores and recap

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers (4-2) pulled out a 26-10 victory over the hapless Chicago Bears (1-6) thanks to three second-half touchdowns from Aaron Rodgers.

A game that started as a snoozer ended with bang as Aaron Rodgers led the Packers on three straight scoring drives in the second half.

However, this wasn’t the cakewalk for Green Bay that the score suggests. The Packers’ offense struggled to click in the first half and reluctantly settled for field goals on two occasions. Green Bay became impatient with only getting three points from their deep drives so they rolled the dice on a 4th and 1 on the Chicago one-yard line.

As luck would have it, the Bears stuffed wide receiver-turned-running back Ty Montgomery’s attempt right before halftime to give Chicago a big boost heading into the locker room.

Things would get worse before they got better for the Packers. Rodgers was strip-sacked by Chicago’s first-round draft pick Leonard Floyd on Green Bay’s first drive after the intermission.

Floyd went on to recover the loose ball in the end zone for the Bears’ only touchdown of the night and displayed the rookie’s physical ability as well as his headiness.

Trailing 10-6 and recording a whopping one touchdown in the past eight quarters, it appeared Green Bay was bracing for the worst.

Right as Cheeseheads began murmuring “Here we go again,” Rodgers flipped the fluky narrative from past weeks. He led the Packers on an 85-yard drive that started with a 30-yard run from Montogomery and ended with a five-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams.

Rodgers wouldn’t stop there. The Packers’ next two drives ended with red zone scores as Rodgers connected with Adams for both of their second touchdowns of the night and went on to find Randall Cobb late in the fourth to seal the deal.

Rodgers was the story of the night and deservedly so. After stagnant performances the past two weeks and having only recorded one second-half touchdown in five games, he bounced back with three against the Bears.

No. 12 would go on to finish the game completing 39 of 56 passes for 326 yards along with the three aforementioned touchdowns.

Adams provided a boost to the receiving corps with 13 catches for 132 yards and two touchdowns. The Packers (and especially Rodgers) had to win this game and did so in resounding fashion.

Early on it appeared viewers were doomed for an ugly game when Chicago’s starting quarterback Brian Hoyer went down with a broken arm in the second quarter. Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley came in to relieve Hoyer and performed as expected: 6 for 15 passing, 81 yards and two interceptions.

The Bears offense was a mess all night as neither quarterback or running back committee in Jordan Howard and Ka’Deem Carey could get anything going.

Like I said in the preview, Chicago wanted to win this game, but Green Bay needed to win. With the Packers staying afloat at 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the NFC North, their season remains in the race for another postseason appearance.
