5 players the Ravens must move on from in 2016

The Baltimore Ravens are still picking up the pieces from perhaps their most disappointing season in franchise history. After finishing the year with 20 players on injured reserve, the Ravens' depth chart will be replenished with several players returning from injury, but there are still holes to fill. Here are five players who GM Ozzie Newsome and head coach John Harbaugh should not be afraid to move on from heading into next season.

1. Eugene Monroe

Monroe has dealt with a laundry list of injuries over the past two seasons, starting just six games in 2015 after missing five the year before. Monroe has been solid when he has been on the field, but his inability to do so leaves his roster spot in peril. His $8.7 million cap number might stand in the way of the Ravens signing or keeping other free agents, including Kelechi Osemele, who filled in quite capably at left tackle over the last few weeks. Releasing Monroe after June 1 would save the team $6.5 million against the cap, but also leave $2.2 million in dead money.

2. Lardarius Webb

After a season of failing to keep up with opposing team's top receivers, Webb is embarking on a shift to safety. Problem is, he's still being paid like a cornerback. Webb is due to make $9.5 million this season (the same as his cap hit), even after restructuring his contract last offseason. Common sense dictates that the front office will approach Webb about another redo. If Webb refuses to come down considerably, Newsome should move on to find better value in his secondary. Cutting ties with Webb would leave another $4 million in dead money but also save the Ravens $5.5 million against the cap.

3. Matt Schaub

Schaub will once again be a free agent after earning $3 million for making two starts in 2015. Anyone who saw him play would be more than agreeable to see him walk. Schaub threw four interceptions, including two pick sixes, and the way Ryan Mallett performed in the last two games of the season, he's the leader in the clubhouse to back up Joe Flacco next season.

Ravens fans shouldn't expect any more pick sixes from Matt Schaub next season, unless he's on the opposing sideline.

4. Marlon Brown

With Torrey Smith gone, and then Steve Smith Sr. injured, the Ravens were hoping that Brown could recapture his rookie season magic, when he caught seven touchdown passes among his 49 receptions. Unfortunately, Brown has just 38 catches the last two seasons and hasn't seen the end zone since. Brown was hampered by a back injury down the stretch and missed six games. He'll be a restricted free agent this season and his production doesn't warrant extending him an offer for 2016, especially with some of the younger receivers on the depth chart that need developing.

5. Chris Canty

Defensive lineman Chris Canty pondered retirement upon his release from Baltimore last offseason, but then the Ravens came calling again with a new two-year offer. Canty started nine games before a torn pectoral muscle ended his season. A solid contributor over his three seasons in Baltimore, the 11-year veteran may need to find a new team if he wants to continue his career. The Ravens have younger options like Brent Urban and Kapron Lewis-Moore to develop up front, and the fact that Baltimore's defense was considerably improved in the second half demonstrates that Canty's nearly $3 million cap is too much to keep him around.
