Baltimore Ravens Linebackers Have Been Key To 3-0 Start

The Baltimore Ravens tradition of great linebackers continues with C.J. Mosley and Zach Orr

The Baltimore Ravens’ have a bit of a history with great linebackers. Ray Lewis was the face of the franchise. He led the defense from the year of the Ravens’ inception until their Super Bowl win in 2012. Peter Boulware delivered on his promise as the fourth-overall pick in 1997. He won defensive rookie of the year and had a great career causing problems for opposing quarterbacks.

There’s also obviously Terrell Suggs, who is still playing at a high level. Some lesser-known names that have also made an impact in the history of the Baltimore Ravens include Adalius Thomas, Jamie Sharper, and Jarret Johnson.

All that to say, the Ravens have consistently had some amazing talent at the linebacker position. For the past few years, whether it was due to injury or just not executing, that hasn’t seemed to be the case. So far this season, however, the Raven’s linebackers have been lighting it up.

C.J. Mosley, who had a game-ending interception in week 2 against the Browns, had another interception this week against the Jaguars. Jacksonville QB Blake Bortles was trying to get the ball to Allen Robinson when Mosley snagged an impressive one-handed, leaping interception.

Mosley’s interception wasn’t the only pick for the Ravens in this game. 3rd year linebacker Zachary Orr also snagged a pass at the end of the game, much like Mosley’s a week earlier. The pass was tipped by Lardarius Webb and caught by Orr to end the game. In addition to the interception, Orr tallied eight tackles in the win against Jacksonville.

While they have been close games, a win is a win. A division win against the Browns tastes sweet whether it was close or a blow out. A road win against Jacksonville in what could have easily become a trap game is also a positive.

The mainstream media doesn’t seem to give the Ravens much respect. However, they are currently one of only five teams in the NFL who can say they are undefeated, and that sounds pretty good to me.
