CANTON, Ohio -- Appropriately, the first Pro Football Hall of Fame concert on inductions weekend will be headlined by Hall of Fame rockers Aerosmith.

The inaugural Concert for Legends will he held Aug. 7 at the Hall of Fame Stadium.

"The Hall is thrilled to have legends of the music world honor the legends of the game," Hall of Fame President David Baker said Thursday. "Aerosmith performing ... will add even more excitement and energy to an enshrinement weekend that kicks off the NFL's 96th season since its birth in Canton, and the launch to Super Bowl 50."

Aerosmith was formed in Boston and the band members -- Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford and Joey Kramer -- are Patriots fans.

"Having grown up since the age of 2, born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, 45 minutes from Foxborough Stadium, and seen the franchise grow has been an amazing experience," said lead guitarist Perry. "As Aerosmith began traveling the world and became our own Hall of Famers, seeing the Patriots under the brilliant guidance of the Kraft family, we would hear the news of our hometown team winning again as we were doing a show in a far flung corner of the world. And we would swell with pride and think, `Yah, those are our boys.' `'

One football Hall of Famer is quite familiar with their music.

"Spending my whole career in New England, I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to get to know Steven, Joe, Brad, Tom and Joey," said former Patriots linebacker Andre Tippett. "I can tell you that the Patriots locker room, in my day, was playing Aerosmith songs like `Toys in the Attic,' `Sweet Emotion,' `Livin on the Edge' and `Walk This Way.'

"And today, I can honestly tell you that those same songs fill the locker room of the Super Bowl champions."
