Adrian Peterson out for Minnesota Vikings until December

Adrian Peterson will have his right meniscus repaired, which means that the Minnesota Vikings star running back is now likely out until at least December.

The Minnesota Vikings suffered another tough blow to their offense on Sunday night. Star running back Adrian Peterson tore the meniscus in his right knee. While Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was reluctant to give a return date for Peterson, it seems that Peterson will now miss most, if not all, of 2016.

On Wednesday, Peterson told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that “he’s planning to have surgery on Thursday to repair his meniscus.” The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport adds that, because Peterson is having his meniscus repaired and not trimmed, he’ll be out until at least December.

This is more tough news for the Vikings, who have already lost their starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for the season. Bridgewater’s knee injury might keep him out through next season.

While the Vikings seem to have lucked out in trading for a new starting quarterback in Sam Bradford, Minnesota now has to roll with Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon in its backfield.

Though Asiata and McKinnon are capable NFL tailbacks, the Vikings offensive line might be one of the worst units in the NFC. Bradford has an injury-riddled past and may not be able to sustain the beatings he is sure to get behind a porous offensive line.

Expect the Vikings to bring in a third running back some time this week. Peterson is surely going on Injured Reserve. The Vikings have an elite roster, but injuries might ruin their Super Bowl LI quest before it even begins.
