Report: Hernandez relative dies

Published Jul. 2, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

A relative of Aaron Hernandez, who reportedly was being sought by police in connection to the investigation of murder charges against the former NFL tight end, has been killed in a car accident, according to the Hartford Courant.

Thaddeus Singleton III, 33, was killed early Sunday when he crashed a car registered to his father-in-law, Andres Valderrama, who is also Hernandez's uncle, according to the Courant. The report said multiple law enforcement agencies were interested in speaking to Singleton in connection to the investigation into the murder of Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez was arrested last week and charged with Lloyd's murder. Singleton, like Hernandez, was from Bristol, Conn.

Police told the Courant that an investigation into the crash revealed the fact Singleton was married to Tanya Valderrama, Hernandez's cousin. The reports states investigators from Massachusetts and Bristol, Conn., have conducted searches of Singleton and Valderrama's home, including one involving a probe of a 2012 double homicide in which Boston officials believe Hernandez may have been involved.

According to the report, a Bristol police official said Massachusetts law enforcement authorities asked police in Bristol, Hernandez's hometown and where his family still resides, for help in that investigation.

Police told the Courant that a female passenger identified as Tabitha Perry, 27, was injured in the crash.
