Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was involved in a prison fight Monday at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts, CNN reported.

Hernandez, who is serving a life sentence after being convicted of murder in the shooting death of Odin Lloyd in June 2013, was a lookout for another inmate who confronted another prisoner in that inmate's cell, according to the report, citing a law enforcement source.

The two inmates engaged in what is believed to be a gang-related fight, CNN reported. Hernandez and the two inmates were disciplined, with Hernandez being put in a special management section, according to the report.

A Massachusetts Department of Correction spokesman declined comment ton CNN.

Hernandez had a previous mishap in February 2014, when he and an inmate being transported from the infirmary allegedly exchanged words. Hernandez, then allegedly punched the inmate, knocking him to the ground.

Hernandez was given a life sentence April 15, which his lawyers have since appealed.

Hernandez is expected to be in court next week for a status hearing, stemming from a double-murder trial in Boston. Hernandez is accused of shooting two men in 2012 after one caused him to spill his drink at a nightclub.
