Davie, FL (Sports Network) - Miami head coach Dave Wannstedt received a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the club through the 2006 season. Meanwhile, the announced that they will restructure their football operations.

The club will conduct an extensive search for a general manager, who will be responsible for all personnel matters on both the professional and college levels, as well as the makeup of the ' roster. Wannstedt will work with the GM in these areas and will continue to be responsible for coaching the club on the field and for his assistants.

"We believe that this change gives us a well-balanced football structure," said team owner H. Wayne Huizenga. "With the evolving nature of the NFL since the introduction of a salary cap, it has become increasingly difficult for one individual to be responsible for both coaching and player personnel matters."

The news comes one day after the defeated the New York to finish the 2003 season at 10-6. However, Miami did not earn a playoff berth.

The were eliminated from postseason contention last week in the tough AFC. It marked the first time since 1989 that the missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.

"This reorganization will allow the new general manager to devote all of his attention to improving the talent on our roster, and at the same time it will give coach Wannstedt and his staff the ability to focus even more on preparing the team to play every week," Huizenga explained.

Wannstedt, who joined the in 1999 as an assistant under then-head coach Jimmy Johnson, has a 41-23 record since taking over the reins in 2000. However, he has only one playoff victory in those four seasons.
