The Minnesota Vikings have signed defensive end Mike Montgomery to a one-year deal.

Montgomery spent the past five seasons with NFC North rival Green Bay. The Packers drafted him out of Texas A&M in the sixth round in 2005.

Montgomery's best season came in 2008 when he started eight games with 71 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks. But his playing time dropped when the Packers switched to a 3-4 defense under Dom Capers.

In Minnesota, Montgomery will serve as a backup to starting ends Jared Allen and Ray Edwards.
