Saints reward special player Lewis with extension

New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - The New Orleans re-signed wide receiver/return specialist with a contract extension through the 2005 season. Lewis was rewarded with the contract extension coming off a record-setting 2002 season. He combined for an NFL-record 1,432 yards combined on both kickoff and punt returns, earning him Pro Bowl honors. He also scored three touchdowns on returns last season.

"Michael was very professional throughout the process and we are very pleased to have one of the NFL's top return specialists extended," said Executive Vice-President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

This season Lewis has accrued 424 combined return yardage.

New Orleans also re-signed defensive tackle , a 10-year veteran who was released prior to last Sunday's loss to Carolina.
