Collins isn¿t expected to carry the , but must show efficiency. The addition of Jeremy Shockey should give Collins a solid outlet and also add much needed balance within the passing game. The upgraded their depth at wide receiver with Tim Carter and Daryl Jones. Both bring more speed to the passing game ¿ but and must make more big plays.

The must become more consistent against the pass and make more plays. and William Peterson gained valuable experience last season and should display more consistency. They really need to rebound into a star again. But it¿s really questionable if he¿ll get past knee problems. And teams will attack free safety because he lacks speed. should have a big season again and is solid inside. But must produce more. They also need more consistency from inside. Griffin wore down against the run too often last season. Depth is a concern along the front line. is a smart guy who prepares well. He should adequately replace on the weakside. But how much will they miss Armstead¿s leadership? Linebacker is one spot where the also lack numbers and won¿t make many big plays.

Special Teams

K has good potential, but must prove he can handle kicking duties. P must improve in the consistency department. Expect improvement from the coverage units. The need more consistency from the return game. Rookies Carter and Jones will compete for time here. could also get another chance to establish himself.

Jim Fassel has generally done a fine job here, but now the will find out which direction they¿re headed this season. Sean Payton has a lot to prove again after the ¿ offense slipped last season. Johnnie Lynn takes over the defense. He should do a solid job, but they do have a few holes defensively that could be tough hiding.

You have to wonder how the chemistry of this team will shake out — especially if they struggle early. Some apparently have given up hope on football and are auditioning for the ¿battle of the tough guys¿ competition. The schedule isn¿t impossible, but they¿ll face some major battles within their division no matter how good any of those teams are.

The Outlook

They have a lot of holes and question marks. A 6-10, 7-9 season is written all over them. But if this team all gets on the same page and some questions are answered, the will once again surprise people. Parity provides hope these days.
