When the Green Bay Packers won their opener Sunday, their victory proved costly in a huge way.

As first reported by, the Packers have lost running back Ryan Grant for the season with right leg and ankle injuries. The team announced Tuesday that Grant had been placed on injured reserve. The injury occurred midway through the second quarter of Sunday’s 27-20 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field.

Grant picked up 18 yards on a run with 6:07 remaining before halftime and emerged from a pileup in obvious pain. He limped one-footed across the sideline and was headed toward the tunnel to the locker room before the Packers’ medical personnel could assist him.

The Packers were expecting a huge year from Grant, who has rushed for more than 1,200 yards in each of the last two seasons, and are now scrambling for a replacement. Prior to the injury, Grant had gained 45 yards on eight carries. Backup Brandon Jackson rushed 18 times for 63 yards in Grant's absence.

After the game, Grant was seen limping to the team bus wearing an orthopedic boot.
