Bledsoe to Washington! Finally!
(Boston Globe)
April Fools! Drew Bledsoe is still a Patriot. But he will be in D.C. tomorrow — as will the rest of the World Champs. It's your traditional "We won something big and now we visit Mr. Oval Office" trip, not your "Hi, Steve? I'm Drew — your new pass throwing guy ...?" trip. But the article does make us believe Bledsoe will never be a Patriot again. He's not going to be at the Pats off-season workout; he doesn't even know when it starts. Nope, he's off to Montana (the state, not the QB) for some peace and quiet. Oh, and there's a chance that he'll still be going to Cincinnati — as a QB, not a tourist.

An older article from the Hartford Courant bemoans the weak market for Drew the Q. It's not a really good article. But it does have an interesting idea. The reporter suggests that the Raiders trade the picks they got for Jon Gruden for Bledsoe. What would they do with Rich Gannon? He has a year on his pact, and is 34 ... so maybe, nothing.

THE DISTILLERY
Today's a big day in sports. It's Opening Day in baseball and Closing Day (?) in NCAA Men's Basketball. But the big news? BootlegSports.com Presents: "Who Wants to Be a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader?" Yep, it's that time of year where the Boys look for girls who want to bounce around in leotards. (Applications are due 4/17/02.) One of the questions on the job app: "In one sentence, please define the 'goal' you hope to achieve as a DCC." The number of jokes one can make about this are near-infinite, so, we'll let you -- yes you, the reader -- do it!. Send your one-sentence answers to us by that 4/17 deadline. Winners will get their first name, last initial, and hometown (and answer, a'course) mentioned in a future Distillery. ... Signings Central: Da Jints keep FS Shaun Williams, Chargers hold on to both PK Steve Christie and DE Adrian Dingle, the Raiders will yet again employ backup RB Randy Jordan, OL Barry Stokes jumped from Green Bay to Cleveland, and the Nawlins club nabs TE David Sloan from Detroit. ... Using Yahoo!'s scoring system, I have 86 points in my tourney bracket. If UMD wins tonight, they'll earn me another 32 points, for 116. But no matter what, I'll beat Charger QB Doug Flutie — hopefully, he throws better than he picks. (We predict a score of 66.) Also a fine fan-driven mock draft. The fans have their home team yoinking Miami (Fla.) OT Bryant McKinnie. ... Talking draft, LB Bradley Jennings (Florida State), who is rated pretty highly on many draft charts, was shot in the shoulder Sunday. He should be OK. And no, there's no April Fool's Joke here. ... The Jags expect to cut PK and all-time leading Jacksonvillian Mike Hollis today.
