NEW YORK (AP)

The Rex Ryan weight-loss challenge is on.

The husky New York Jets coach, who underwent lap-band surgery two months ago, began a contest Monday with defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and offensive tackle Damien Woody to see who can lose the most weight by July 30 - the day before the team reports for camp in Cortland.

Ryan told 1050 ESPN radio and the team's website that the winner will earn a donation to his favorite charity.

``I just want to lose one more pound than those two,'' Ryan told ESPN.

Ryan said he has lost about 40 pounds since his procedure and is down to 311, but wants to reach 275.

``The guys are going to have fun with it,'' Ryan told newyorkjets.com. ``There's an offensive player, a defensive player and a 47-year-old coach. The handicappers, I don't know how they're going to view this.''

Jenkins, listed at 360 pounds, is recovering from surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee last season.

``Kris is a tremendous player,'' Ryan told ESPN. ``This is a big man. He's just a big person. He's got lean muscle mass, but we're trying to trim off some of the other. Coming off his knee surgery, obviously he's going to be more productive if he can lose some weight.''

Woody is listed at 330, although official starting weights weren't announced.

``I'm not out of shape,'' Woody told the team's website. ``I feel great. I'm at the complex working out every day. It's just all about getting better.''

The three will be weighed in each Friday during offseason workouts, with the winner determined before the Jets head to training camp.

``If they somehow find a way to beat me,'' Ryan told ESPN, ``that's going to be big to them.''
