Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing sustained a torn LCL and a broken leg after being blocked low by Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles during their game Sunday. There weren’t any hard feelings after the injury occurred as the two exchanged messages on Twitter and displayed their mutual respect for each other.

Charles, who suffered a torn ACL of his own in 2011, expressed remorse for the hit and told FOXSports.com on Monday that he feels terrible that he played a part in the play that will sideline the Pro Bowl linebacker for the season.

“I feel sorry and I wish nothing on nobody getting hurt,” said Charles, who also spoke at length about the team’s 7-0 start. “It’s a play that’s designed for me to cut no matter who it was. If it wasn’t Brian Cushing, it could’ve been any Texans defensive player, I was going to go low. I was supposed to cut the first man off the tackle, so I did my job.

“As long as I did my job, I’m good. My job was to cut, but my job was just to get it done. Not to hurt nobody. I didn’t try to intentionally hurt him. I’m not a dirty player and I’m sorry he fell that way because I’ve been injured on the field once and it’s not a good feeling.”

Here's what the block looked like:

Cushing signed a five-year, $55 million deal in September after recovering from a torn ACL last season which cost him 11 games.

Charles finished the game with 21 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 17-16 win.
