Mayweather Jr. bet on Brady vs. Tebow?

Published Dec. 29, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

For a guy headed to jail to begin a three-month jail term, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has had a lot to smile about this month.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Mayweather placed a $1 million bet in Vegas that Tom Brady's New England Patriots would beat Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos.

The famous boxer, known for making (and tweeting) some of his big-money bets, reportedly made the wager with the M Resort. However, Mike Colbert, Cantor Gaming sports book director at the resort, would not confirm or deny the rumblings, telling the Journal-Review that he wasn't allowed to comment on who bets. Colbert did, however, acknowledge that the boxer is "a valued customer who frequents the books quite often."

The Patriots toppled Tebow's Broncos 41-23 on Dec. 18, ending Denver's six-game winning streak.

Mayweather Jr. is scheduled to report to jail on Jan. 6 to serve a 90-day sentence in jail after pleading guilty to reduced battery domestic violence and harassment charges before a Las Vegas judge.

The 34-year-old Mayweather also must complete 100 hours of community service and pay a $2,500 fine.

The plea deal avoids trial on felony allegations that he hit his ex-girlfriend and threatened two of their children during an argument at her home in September 2010.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
