Charlie Sheen: I didn't buy LT's ring

Charlie Sheen did not win.

The oft-troubled actor, and known sports enthusiast, has denied a report that he placed the winning $230,000 bid to acquire Giants great Lawrence Taylor's Super Bowl XXV ring.

Sheen was linked to the championship bling after Taylor's longtime representative, Mark Lepselter, informed FOXSports.com he had been told the Hollywood badboy claimed the prize at auction earlier this week.

But the former "Two and a Half Men" star stopped the story in its tracks on Friday.

"RE: Lawrence Taylor's Ring: As much as I would be honored to own such an important artifact... I had nothing to do with the acquisition," Sheen posted on his Twitter account.

Sheen has a history of spending money on sports memorabilia. In 1992, he purchased the infamous ball that trickled between the legs of Red Sox first basemen Bill Buckner in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series for $93,000 before selling it for $64,000 in 2000. The same ball fetched $418,250 at auction earlier this month.

Lepselter confirmed to FOXSports.com last week that Taylor's ring -- won during the 1990-91 season when the Giants defeated the Buffalo Bills in the title game -- was put on auction by the Hall of Famer's son, TJ.

Taylor apparently had little problem with the decision to sell the prized ring, however, with Lepselter saying it was a gift to TJ and his to do with as he wished.
