Bills cornerback Terrence McGee is done for the season, and it's suddenly unclear who'll start at quarterback this weekend after injuries forced Buffalo to re-sign former third-stringer Gibran Hamdan.

McGee was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, a day before he's scheduled to have surgery to repair his right rotator cuff. The starter becomes the 16th Bills player placed on the season-ending list after he was hurt in a 17-10 loss to New England.

The move was expected after a person familiar with the injury told The Associated Press that McGee is scheduled to have surgery this week. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the surgery.

McGee was hurt early in the third quarter when he attempted to break up a pass to Randy Moss. Leading with his right shoulder, McGee hit a leaping Moss in the hip as the receiver hung on for a 16-yard catch.

And that's not the end of the team's injury woes as the Bills (5-9) prepare to play at Atlanta (7-7) this weekend.

Hamdan, who was released by Buffalo in November, was re-signed after starter Ryan Fitzpatrick and backup Trent Edwards both hurt their ankles last weekend. That leaves Buffalo with four quarterbacks on its roster, including untested second-year player Brian Brohm.

Interim coach Perry Fewell on Monday wouldn't commit to the possibility of starting Brohm if Fitzpatrick and Edwards can't play.

Hamdan's addition provides the Bills another option. He's a fifth-year NFL player who has spent the past three years with Buffalo and is familiar with the team's offense.

The team was off on Tuesday, and returns to practice Wednesday.

McGee's season-ending injury caps a difficult season for the seven-year veteran, though he did sign a four-year contract extension in September. McGee played the first half of the season despite a torn ligament in his right knee, which he had surgically repaired during the team's bye week in early November.

He returned to the lineup after missing three games.
