NEW YORK

The last time anyone noticed Andre Brown, the New York Giants running back was captured on a rousing video chanting "I got a ring" in sing-song fashion on the team's triumphant flight home from Super Bowl XLVI.

Well, in addition to a ring, Brown has a whole lot of trouble.

Brown was suspended without pay by the NFL Friday for the first four games of the 2012 season for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

The 25-year-old is eligible to participate in all offseason workouts, training camp and preseason games, but then must sit out the first four games of the regular season.

Brown, a 2009 fourth-round draft pick out of North Carolina State, missed his entire rookie year with a ruptured Achilles tendon and spent all of last season on the practice squad.

He was no higher than fourth on the depth chart at running back, behind Ahmad Bradshaw, D.J. Ware and Da'Rel Scott and certainly no sure thing to make the final roster this season. This setback won't help.
