Comments on the New York Giants by the AP Pro32 panel (ranking in parentheses):

Chris Berman (ESPN, 1) - After all, they are defending champs.

Clifton Brown (Sporting News, 1) - Rookie running back David Wilson looks like he will have instant impact. Team can score, and can rush passer. A great combination.

Cris Collinsworth (NBC Sports, 3) - Got hot at perfect time last year. Need to carry postseason mentality into regular season.

Rich Gannon (CBS Sports/SiriusXM NFL Radio, 5) - Tough, determined and focused to repeat. Will win NFC East.

Bob Glauber (Newsday, 1) - Tom Coughlin's preseason motto: ''Build a bridge.'' That bridge just might lead to New Orleans next February.

Rick Gosselin (Dallas Morning News, 7) - Last seven Super Bowl champions have all failed to repeat.

Clark Judge (, 1) - Last time I checked, they hadn't lost a game since Super Bowl.

Ira Kaufman (Tampa Tribune, 5) - Five prime-time games and a killer closing slate will test resolve of Super Bowl champs.

Pat Kirwan (SiriusXM NFL Radio/, 2) - Eli Manning an elite QB and so is pass rush. Perfect combination to beat good teams. Liked team's humility and preparation on my camp tour stop.

John Lynch (Fox Sports, 1) - To be champ you've got to beat champ. They embody formula for success in today's NFL: franchise QB, guys to knock down QB in Tuck, Osi, Jason Pierre-Paul ... are you kidding me?

Alex Marvez (, 4) - First-round pick David Wilson provided preseason rushing spark Giants had missed. One thing that remains same from last year's Super Bowl-winning squad: A dominating pass-rush.

Dan Pompei (Chicago Tribune, 2) - A little beat up at cornerback, but pass rush should be able to compensate while they get healthy.
