The San Francisco 49ers are going to be without wide receiver Quinton Patton, tight end Blake Bell and linebacker Nick Bellore, who all landed on season-ending injured reserve following the Niners Week 15 loss against the Atlanta Falcons.
Injuries were added to the insult of the San Francisco 49ers’ 41-13 Week 15 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
According to head coach Chip Kelly (h/t Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area), three players from the team’s roster — wide receiver Quinton Patton, tight end Blake Bell and linebacker Nick Bellore — will land on injured reserve after suffering various injuries during the contest.
Patton suffered a foot injury in the first half. And Bell injured his elbow after a 45-yard reception, which turned out to be the Niners’ longest of the game.
Bellore suffered a shoulder injury early in the contest.
It created a precarious situation for the defense, as the team had placed starting linebacker Gerald Hodges on the inactive list.
Hodges had apparently violated a team rule prior to the game.
This left Bellore and Michael Wilhoite as the only two dressed inside linebackers. And San Francisco’s defense was left to scramble as a result.
Additionally, Maiocco pointed out cornerback Jimmie Ward, center Marcus Martin and nose tackle Glenn Dorsey suffered injuries during the contest. Their statuses for Week 16 have yet to be determined.
The Niners will likely make some roster moves to fill the vacancies. Perhaps one of those will be to promote linebacker Marcus Rush from the practice squad. He was one of the few preseason bright spots on the roster.
