New England Patriots quarterback Brian Hoyer, the backup to Tom Brady, has signed his second-round restricted tender.
Hoyer is due a $1.927 million base salary this season. If another team signs him to an offer sheet, which is unlikely to happen, the Patriots would receive a second-round draft pick if they opt not to match.
Hoyer is a highly regarded former undrafted free agent from Michigan State.
Chris Chamberlain to Saints
The New Orleans Saints have signed linebacker Chris Chamberlain to a three-year contract, general manager Mickey Loomis announced Friday.
The 6-foot-1, 238-pounder is a former St. Louis Rams seventh-round draft pick from Tulsa.
Chamberlain has recorded 112 career tackles in 19 starts, with two sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. He also has 73 special-teams tackles.
Last season, he had a career-high 84 tackles, plus two sacks, one interception and one forced fumble in 13 starts.
Seahawks, Lumpkin agree to deal
The Seattle Seahawks have reached a deal with running back Kregg Lumpkin.
Seattle announced Friday it had agreed to terms with the backup running back, who spent the last two seasons with Tampa Bay. No details of Lumpkin’s agreement were released.
Lumpkin appeared in all 16 games last season for the Buccaneers, although his opportunities were limited on the ground. He finished the year with 31 carries for 105 yards rushing, but was more of a factor in the passing game, catching 41 passes for 291 yards out of the backfield.
The Indianapolis Colts have signed veteran wide receiver Donnie Avery, the team announced.
Avery previously visited the New York Jets.
In three NFL seasons, the former St. Louis Rams second-round draft pick has caught 103 passes for 1,308 yards and nine touchdowns with 14 runs for 99 yards and one score.
“Donnie is a very fast wide receiver who has had a productive past,” Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said. “He is an excellent fit for our offense and will help shape our receiving core moving forward.”
The Baltimore Ravens have signed safety Sean Considine to a one-year contract.
Considine is a former Philadelphia Eagles fourth-round draft pick who has also played for the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and the Arizona Cardinals.
He has recorded 253 career tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, four interceptions, five fumble recoveries and 93 special-teams tackles.
Ravens bolster special teams
The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a new three-year contract with three-time Pro Bowl special-teams ace Brendon Ayanbadejo, according to a league source.
They also added Chicago Bears Pro Bowl special-teams ace Corey Graham on a two-year deal.
Ayanbadejo, 35, finished second on the team last season with nine special teams tackles last season and was an unrestricted free agent whose contract had expired.
After 10 days of inactivity in free agency, the Green Bay Packers have agreed to sign longtime Indianapolis Colts center Jeff Saturday to a two-year contract.
Saturday’s agent, Ralph Cindrich, confirmed the length of the contract on Twitter.
Saturday, a 13-year veteran after going undrafted in 1998, has played his entire career with the Colts. Nearly all of those years were spent snapping the ball to Peyton Manning. With Manning signing with the Denver Broncos, and Saturday reportedly choosing between Green Bay and Denver, it’s somewhat surprising the five-time Pro Bowl selection did not pick a reunion with his former Colts teammate.
Chicago Bears free-agent cornerback and Pro Bowl special-teams ace Corey Graham has joined the Baltimore Ravens on two-year deal that averages $1.85 million and can top $2 million with minimum playing time incentives after previously visiting the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
Graham, 26, intercepted a career-high three passes with one forced fumble last season.
Former Chicago Bears reserve quarterback Caleb Hanie visited the Denver Broncos on Thursday, according to a league source.
Hanie, 26, played collegiately at Colorado State.
He struggled with the Bears last season when forced into the lineup when Jay Cutler was sidelined, passing for three touchdowns and nine interceptions with 613 yards for a 41.8 quarterback rating. He rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown.
For his career, the 6-foot-2, 222-pounder has completed just 50.9 percent of his throws.
