Chiefs check out Cotchery

Pittsburgh Steelers veteran free-agent wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery completed his visit with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to an NFL source.

Cotchery, 29, caught 16 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns last season.

The former North Carolina State standout has played in the NFL for eight seasons, including his first seven with the New York Jets.

For his career, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has caught 374 passes for 4,751 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Hanie to back up Peyton?

Former Chicago Bears reserve quarterback Caleb Hanie visited the Denver Broncos on Thursday, according to a league source.

Hanie, 26, played collegiately at Colorado State.

He struggled with the Bears last season when forced into the lineup when Jay Cutler was sidelined, passing for three touchdowns and nine interceptions with 613 yards for a 41.8 quarterback rating. He rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown.

For his career, the 6-foot-2, 222-pounder has completed just 50.9 percent of his throws.

Corey Graham visits Lions

Chicago Bears free-agent cornerback and Pro Bowl special-teams ace Corey Graham visited the Detroit Lions, according to a league source.

He visited the Seattle Seahawks earlier this week.

Graham, 26, intercepted a career-high three passes with one forced fumble last season.

In five NFL seasons, he has 180 tackles, four interceptions and two forced fumbles.

Panthers sign OL Pollak

The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran offensive lineman Mike Pollak, a free agent formerly with the Indianapolis Colts.

Pollak played 15 games for Indianapolis last year, starting eight of them.

The 27-year-old started 41 games in four seasons for the Colts. A 6-foot-3, 301-pounder, he played collegiately at Arizona State.

Josh Johnson to Niners

Tampa Bay Buccaneers free-agent quarterback Josh Johnson has signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers after previously visiting the Washington Redskins, the Niners announced Thursday.

He played for 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh at the University of San Diego.

Johnson, 25, has passed for 1,042 career yards with five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He started one game last season, and completed 19 of 36 passes for 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in nine games.

Broncos, Porter agree

The Denver Broncos have agreed to a one-year contract with New Orleans Saints free-agent cornerback Tracy Porter, the team announced Thursday.

Porter has 227 career tackles, seven interceptions, 37 pass deflections, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

He returned a Peyton Manning interception for a touchdown during the Saints' Super Bowl victory over the Indianapolis Colts.

Porter is a former second-round draft pick from Indiana who intercepted 16 passes for the Hoosiers with 212 tackles, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Larsen joins Patriots

Former Denver Broncos fullback-linebacker Spencer Larsen has joined the New England Patriots on a two-year contract, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Larsen, 28, is a versatile 6-foot-2, 243-pounder who has 38 career tackles, 62 rushing yards, one touchdown and 13 catches for 120 yards.

The former sixth-rounder from Arizona has started 15 career games.

Belcher signs tender

Kansas City Chiefs restricted free agent linebacker Jovan Belcher signed his one-year, $1.972 million tender.

Belcher is a former undrafted free agent from Maine who has been extremely productive in 48 career games and 34 starts.

In three seasons, he has registered 250 tackles, one sack, nine quarterback pressures, two pass deflections and a forced fumble.

He has 18 special-teams tackles.

Breaking down Satele's deal

Indianapolis Colts center Samson Satele's three-year contract is worth up to $10.8 million, according to a league source.

The former Miami Dolphins second-round draft pick and Oakland Raiders starter received a $3.2 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed $700,000 base salary this year as well as annual $100,000 workout bonuses.

Of his $2.7 million base in 2013, $1 million is guaranteed for injury only. He's due a $3.9 million base salary in 2014.

Lions sign three players

The Detroit Lions have signed defensive end Everette Brown, linebacker Ashlee Palmer and tight end Will Heller to one-year contracts, the team announced.

Brown, 24, is a former Carolina Panthers second-round draft pick from Florida State who worked out for the New York Giants, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and the Lions since being released by Carolina prior to the regular season last year.

For his career, he has 49 tackles, six sacks, one interception and three forced fumbles.

As a rookie, Brown recorded 22 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Raiders have deal with Barnes

The Oakland Raiders have officially announced a one-year deal to bring back free agent offensive lineman Khalif Barnes.

The team made the announcement on Thursday, a day after Barnes' agent said the two sides had agreed on a contract that could pay Barnes up to $2 million this season.

After spending most of his first two years with the Raiders as a reserve, Barnes started all 16 games at right tackle last year.

The Raiders signed guard Mike Brisiel to a four-year deal worth almost $20 million last week and brought back recently released guard Cooper Carlisle this week as they put together their offensive line.

Chris Carr going on visits

Former Baltimore Ravens cornerback Chris Carr is visiting the Kansas City Chiefs and also has a visit scheduled with the Minnesota Vikings with two other undisclosed visits coming up, according to a league source. Carr was due a $2.5 million base salary and carried a $3.45 million salary-cap figure for next season before being cut by the Ravens.

Carr signed a three-year, $14 million contract last year that included a $3.8 million signing bonus.

He was due base salaries of $3 million and $4 million in 2013 and 2014.

Carr dealt with hamstring and back injuries that limited him to nine games last season after starting every game the previous year.

Giants re-sign David Carr

The New York Giants have re-signed backup quarterback David Carr, the team announced.

The former Houston Texans top overall pick has also played for the San Francisco 49ers.

Carr backed up Eli Manning last year for the Super Bowl champions.

For his career, Carr has passed for 14,433 yards, 65 touchdowns and 71 interceptions.

A look at Anderson's deal

Newly minted Buffalo Bills defensive end Mark Anderson's four-year, $27.5 million contract included a $6 million signing bonus, a $1.5 million option bonus and a $1.9 million 2012 base salary fully guaranteed, according to a league source.

The deal includes $8 million in guaranteed money.

He's also due base salaries of $2.4 million in 2013, $3.9 million in 2014 and $4.9 million in 2015.

The deal includes $100,000 annual workout bonuses.

Patriots bring back Branch

Veteran wide receiver Deion Branch has rejoined the New England Patriots on a one-year contract, a league source confirmed.

Branch, 32, caught 51 passes for 702 yards and five touchdowns.

For his career, Branch has recorded 502 career receptions for 6,499 yards and 39 touchdowns.

He has caught 99 passes for 1,408 yards and 10 touchdowns for the Patriots over the two seasons.

Bush signs with Bears

Oakland Raiders veteran free agent Michael Bush has agreed to a four-year, $14 million contract with the Chicago Bears that includes $7 million guaranteed.

Bush also visited the Cincinnati Bengals, who agreed to terms with running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

Bush, 27, is a 6-foot-1, 245-pounder from Louisville who rushed for a career-high 977 yards and seven touchdowns and caught 37 passes for 418 yards last season.

In four NFL seasons, Bush has rushed for 2,642 career yards and 21 touchdowns and has caught 91 passes for 879 yards and one touchdown.

Atogwe visits Lions

Former Washington Redskins free safety Oshiomogho "O.J." Atogwe visited the Detroit Lions, the team announced.

Cut by the Redskins, Atogwe, 30, dealt with hamstring, knee and toe injuries last season and was due a $3.4 million base salary for 2012.

Atogwe was signed to a five-year, $26 million contract last year by the Redskins. He has also played for the St. Louis Rams.

Atogwe, 30, has intercepted 25 passes with 16 forced fumbles.

Battle met with Chargers

Kansas City Chiefs veteran free agent running back Jackie Battle visited the San Diego Chargers, an NFL source confirmed. He could fit in as a replacement for Mike Tolbert.

Tolbert signed a $10 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.

Battle, 28, is a 6-foot-2, 238-pound power back who rushed for a career-high 597 yards and two touchdowns last season while averaging four yards per carry. He also caught nine passes for 68 yards.

Johnson visited Redskins

Tampa Bay Buccaneers free agent quarterback Josh Johnson visited the Washington Redskins, according to an NFL source.

Bucs make moves

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed offensive tackle Jamon Meredith to a two-year contract and cut defensive ends Nick Reed and Tim Crowder, the team announced. Meredith is a former Green Bay Packers fifth-round draft pick who has also played for the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing in four games last season for Pittsburgh.

Meredith played collegiately at South Carolina.

Crowder had 14 tackles, two for losses last season, and 42 tackles and three sacks two years ago.

Reed is a former Chicago Bear who played in three games and had two tackles last season for Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers veteran free-agent running back Kregg Lumpkin is visiting the Seattle Seahawks today and Friday, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

Lumpkin, 27 rushed for 105 yards last seaosn on 31 carries, catching 41 passes for 291 yards.

It's decision time for Pittsburgh Steelers free-agent cornerback William Gay.

He visited the Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals, and now he's going to pick a team.

"Done with all the visits," Gay wrote on his Twitter account. "Now its time to decide where I'm going to play next year."

Source: Reworked Brady deal saves Pats $7.2M

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is a team player, restructuring his contract to create $7.2 million in salary-cap room for the AFC East club, an NFL source confirmed.

The former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player's four-year, $72 million contract was restructured last week as he reduced his base salary from $5.75 million and scheduled $6 million roster bonus to a fully guaranteed $950,000 for 2012 as the Patriots gave him a $10.8 million bonus.

The $6 million roster bonus and the remaining $4.8 million were combined to come up with the bonus amount.

Source: Titans hosted Porter, others

New Orleans Saints free agent cornerback Tracy Porter visited the Tennessee Titans this week along with Indianapolis Colts free agent defensive end Jamaal Anderson, Houston Texans free agent tight end Joel Dreessen and Colts free agent center Jeff Saturday, according to an NFL source.

Porter, 25, has also met with the Denver Broncos. He has seven career interceptions.

Anderson is a former Atlanta Falcons first-round draft pick who has 129 career tackles and 7 1/2 sacks in five NFL seasons.

Cardinals resign Batiste

The Arizona Cardinals have re-signed offensive lineman D'Anthony Batiste.

The 6-foot-4, 314-pounder played in four games for the Cardinals last season.

Batiste, 29, has also played for the Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and the Edmonton Eskimos.
