The New England Patriots showed the NFL world why they are the No. 1 team at this point after their thrashing of the host Buffalo Bills last week. They've already sewn up the No. 1 seed in the AFC and are playing at the top of their game at a critical juncture. It will be interesting to see if any other teams in the AFC can challenge them during the playoffs. But it won't be easy since the Patriots are undefeated at home this season.

In the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons finally lost a game at home, but it wasn't as though the New Orleans Saints were dominant. That game could have gone either way. The Falcons still deserve to be the NFC's top-ranked team at this point based on their performance over the course of the season.

While the Falcons are still in need of help at one of their receiver spots, their offense has really looked solid the past two weeks. And on defense, the speed really seems to be improved. This is looking like a rock solid playoff team.

Something is missing from this team through three games. I can't put my oversized fingers on it, but I don't think the Saints look quite as good as they did last season thus far. Still, they will be competing deep into the playoffs this year.

It's amazing that they were even close to beating the Bears despite the team-record 18 penalties. Despite the loss, the Packers are still one of the NFL's best teams. What could cost them in the end is what appears to be a shaky secondary.

I love watching their offense each week, but for this team to make the playoffs they have to find a way to consistently get to the quarterback. I mentioned this before here, but the loss of second-year DE Connor Barwin probably is bigger than anyone thought. The secondary, while talented, is not getting much help from the front-four. The offense is not the problem with this team. They really don't have a weakness on that side of the ball. The secondary continues to be the bane of San Diego's existence. What would help them is a more consistent pass rush.
