The New England Patriots showed the NFL world why they are the No. 1 team at this point after their thrashing of the host Buffalo Bills last week. They've already sewn up the No. 1 seed in the AFC and are playing at the top of their game at a critical juncture. It will be interesting to see if any other teams in the AFC can challenge them during the playoffs. But it won't be easy since the Patriots are undefeated at home this season.

In the NFC, the Atlanta Falcons finally lost a game at home, but it wasn't as though the New Orleans Saints were dominant. That game could have gone either way. The Falcons still deserve to be the NFC's top-ranked team at this point based on their performance over the course of the season.

That loss at Cleveland in Week 9 seems to have actually lit a major fire under the Patriots. No team has played better over the past three weeks. But we'll get a real idea of where they stand in the AFC East against the visiting Jets on Monday night.

And they can't use the weather as an excuse. While the Jets won that game, I think we learned the Falcons are a just a bit better than them. And can we stop this nonsense about Mark Sanchez for MVP? Please. Sure, he has been much-improved this season, but let's get serious. I haven't talked to one person I respect in the NFL who thinks he deserves consideration. Collapse Description

I got some emails earlier week asking why the Ravens aren't getting a lot of notice despite winning four out of their last five games. It's because they aren't flashy. They simply get the job done most of the time. But their detractors continue to point out two issues -- the lack of a downfield passing game and a suspect secondary. We'll see if those issues are brought to light against the visiting Steelers this week. Collapse Description

Better to be lucky than good? Well, the Steelers got as lucky as possible against the host Bills. And if WR Steve Johnson doesn't drop that sure touchdown pass, they would have lost. It sure looked like they would blow them out after the first quarter, but Buffalo did a great job of taking WR Mike Wallace out of the game. Their two-deep coverage took away the deep passes to the speedy receiver. It will be interesting to see how opposing defenses play against him going forward. Collapse Description
