News: The Dallas Cowboys have signed Smith to an eight-year contract extension that locks up the Pro Bowl left tackle through the 2023 season. Impact: The extension signed Wednesday is worth $98 million, pushing the total value of his deal to 10 years and $110 million. Smith gets a $10 million signing bonus and $40 million in guaranteed money. The long contract means Smith will likely be the most important blocker for Tony Romo and whoever replaces the 34-year-old quarterback. (STATS, 1:56pm)

News: Smith signed a massive eight-year, $109 million extension with the Cowboys, The Dallas Morning News reports. Impact: Smith, who was named to his first Pro Bowl last season, had the fifth-year option of his rookie contract picked up by the Cowboys in May. That ensured Smith would remain in Dallas through the 2015 season, but after signing his wealthy extension worth $40 million guaranteed Wednesday, Smith will be under contract through 2023 and also collect a $10 million signing bonus. The 23-year-old has missed just one game during his three year career thus far, starting the other 47 contests and conceding just 14 sacks. Now, with Tony Romo coming off back surgery, Smith will protect his blindside for the foreseeable future as the foundation of Dallas' revamped offensive line unit.(RotoWire, )
